Scope and Content View of Barcaldine House from the north-west, Argyll and Bute In the early 18th century the Campbells of Barcaldine abandoned Barcaldine Castle and built a new house 6km to the east. This was extended in 1733 and then superseded c.1759 by a new mansion which was extended and altered over the next two centuries. To the right is the three-storeyed block dating to c.1759. In the centre of its north façade, a segmental bow was added at the beginning of the 19th century. To the left of the bow is a three-storeyed parapeted block dating to the early 20th century. The parapeted block contains the present main entrance and staircase. To the left is the two-storeyed library wing in a blend of Jacobean and Elizabethan styles, built in 1831-8. Further left is the two-storeyed bedroom wing which also dates to 1831-8. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
