Scope and Content Drawing showing ceiling design for second-floor chamber in Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This ceiling design by Lorimer was for a second-floor chamber in the original tower-house. It was to be executed in hand-modelled plasterwork. Lorimer worked with Thomas Beattie (1861-1933), an architectural modeller who specialised in ceilings. Lorimer (1864-1929) also worked with Sam Wilson (d.1930) who was another architectural modeller. Wilson and Beattie were responsible for most of Lorimer's decorated hand-modelled ceilings. Lorimer selected craftsmen who produced work of highest quality. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
