Scope and Content Hillside House, No 44 The Causeway, Duddingston, Edinburgh The Causeway, Duddingston's main street, is a narrow lane which runs from the gates of the church the length of the village. It has a number of 18th- and 19th-century houses, as well as the village's only public house, the 18th-century Sheep Heid Inn. Hillside House, as its name suggests, stands on the side of the hill to the north of The Causeway. This rather plain Victorian house, dating from c.1848, has views over the village to Duddingston Loch and the Pentland Hills. The house belonged, until recently, to the Hunter family, whose diaries recorded daily details of Victorian life, including trips in their 'pony and trap' to Portobello. The interior of the house still retains many of the original Victorian features. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
