Scope and Content Bonded warehouse, College Goods Station, 105-169 Bell Street, Glasgow This very large bonded warehouse was built by the Glasgow and South Western Railway as part of the development of its College Goods Station on part of the site of the Old College of Glasgow. It was designed to serve the growing whisky trade. This view shows the rear of the warehouse from the north, looking across the cleared site of the main part of the goods station. The 'ghosts' of the goods sheds can be seen on the stonework of the warehouse. Glasgow was developing as a major centre for the blending of Scotch whisky by the 1880s, with malt whiskies coming in by rail and sea. Some blending was carried on here and in other railway-owned premises. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
