Scope and Content Lighthouse Depot, Oban, Argyll This depot was built by the Northern Lighthouse Board to service the lighthouses on the western seaboard of Scotland, and to maintain the navigation buoys for which the Board are responsible. It has a pier, workshop and helicopter pad. This view shows the depot from the east. The building with the short spire is the workshop block. The vessel at the pier is the MV Fingal, the tender for the western lighthouses. There are buoys on the pier. This is one of three bases maintained by the Board, the others being at Stromness in Orkney, and at Granton, Edinburgh. A replacement for the Fingal was under construction in 2000.
