Scope and Content Road bridge, Low Valleyfield, Fife This bridge spans the Bluther Burn on the boundary between the villages of Low Valleyfield and Newmills. It replaced an earlier bridge to the north, probably when what is now the B9037 road was turnpiked. The earlier bridge survives, overgrown. This view shows the newer bridge from the north west. The design is seriously architectural, probably on account of its proximity to the now-demolished Valleyfield House. The pipe below is a water main. This bridge still carries main road traffic. The sinking of coal mines in the Valleyfield area resulted in a loss of amenity for the great house, hence its demolition. Only the gateway survives. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
