Scope and Content Tummel Bridge Hydro-electric Power Station, Perthshire This power station was built by the Grampian Hydro-electric Power Co Ltd as part of the first major hydro-electric scheme for public supply in the highlands of Scotland. It draws it water from the impounded Loch Rannoch via an open aqueduct. This view shows the power station from the north, with the riveted steel flumes from the aqueduct to the right. Care has been taken in the design of the building to reduce its apparent bulk, though it is rather old-fashioned for the 1930s. The success of this scheme, and of the Clyde and Galloway ones in the south of Scotland, paved the way for the massive expansion of hydro-electric power generation in the highlands after 1945.
