Scope and Content Lochside House, Old Church Lane, Duddingston Village, Edinburgh Old Church Lane, a narrow walled lane that runs the length of the village, was originally the route to Duddingston Parish Church. Its continuation westwards from the Church gates dates from 1856 when the road through Holyrood Park was constructed. Lochside House, a Georgian villa built c.1815, is one of a pair on the north side of the lane. Above the doorpiece is a cornice supported by ornamental stone brackets, and the attractive garden is bounded by a low stone wall and elegant iron railings. Old Church Lane was formed c.1760, probably in the course of the remodelling of Duddingston Village by the Earl of Abercorn, who, having bought the lands of Duddingston in 1745, wanted to construct a road from his home, Duddingston House, to the church.
