Scope and Content Methil Power Station, Fife This power station was built when the Fife coalfield was the most active in Scotland. It was designed to burn low-grade fine slurry from the washery at the former Wellesley Colliery, which processed coal from the large Michael and other pits. This view shows the station from the north west, with the slurry stockyard on the right and the boiler-house and turbine hall to the left. The chimney is made of reinforced concrete. The architectural treatment of this complex was by Stanley Ross-Smith, Edinburgh. Though much more modest in scale than the other coal-fired power station of the period it has a notable presence.
