Fishtown of Usan, Signal Tower General View

SC 504412

Description Fishtown of Usan, Signal Tower General View

Date 18/8/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 504412

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Lookout tower, Fishtown of Usan, Angus This is a rendered four-storey rubble tower with a crenellated parapet in the middle of a row of single-storey rubble cottages. It appears to have been an early coastguard station. This view shows the tower with its paired round-headed openings and the associated cottages. It is possible that the occupants of the cottages combined coastguard work with salmon fishing from the nearby beach fishing station. In 1976 there was still a coastguard station at Usan, and it can be seen in the left background in this view. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
