Scope and Content Tollhouse, Scotsbank, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire This tollhouse is on a cross-country road from Deeside to Donside. Unlike many former tollhouses this one was in 1976 still relatively unaltered. This view shows the tollhouse from the south. It is typical in having a central bow, and a low-pitched piended roof. The most obvious alteration is the addition of a wooden porch, but a door to the left and a window in the bow have been blocked. The payment of tolls on Scottish roads and bridges was ended in the 1880s, Most tollhouses continued to be used as dwelling houses, as in this case. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
