Scope and Content Claverhouse Bleachworks, Dundee, Angus This complex was built for the bleaching of linen, then made in large quantities in the Dundee area. It was enlarged and adapted many times as the technique of bleaching changed, and the buildings surviving in 1976 were not a coherent group. This view shows the works from the south east< note the large square-section brick chimney with its stone base, probably an early feature. This was one of the largest bleachworks in Angus. It closed in the early 1960s, and partly converted into a furniture factory, a use which continued at least until 1976. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
