Scope and Content Limeworks, Ard Neackie, Loch Erribol, Sutherland, Highland This limeworks was constructed as part of the Sutherland Estate improvements of the mid 19th century. It is situated on a peninsula projecting into Loch Erribol, and has a bank of four single-draw kilns, and pier for importing fuel and exporting lime. This view shows the works in its landscape setting. The kilns are towards the left, with the pier in front, and the limestone quarry behind. The manager's house and a warehouse are at the end of the neck of land on the right.. The lime made here was mainly for agricultural purposes, and was distributed mainly by sea. There was another limeworks on Eilean Choraidh, in the middle of Loch Erribol. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
