Scope and Content Interior view of King's College Chapel, Aberdeen King's College was founded by Bishop Elphinstone in 1495 with the support of King James IV, hence the name. Most of the college was built around 1498-1505. The only original buildings surviving are the chapel and the Ivy Tower. This is the interior of the long low chapel. On the north wall (left) is the finely panelled Renaissance pulpit of Bishop William Stewart (1532-45), originally from St Machar's. Opposite it is the stall belonging to Bishop Patrick Forbes dated 1627. The original choir stalls commissioned by Bishop Elphinstone can be seen against the walls. Carved out of oak, they are highly decorative and a rare surviving example of medieval church furnishings in Scotland. Much of the stained glass is modern. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
