Scope and Content Entrance to Freemasons' Hall, 96 George Street, Edinburgh The Freemasons' Hall, the most important work of A Hunter Crawford, was built in 1910-12, replacing an earlier hall on the site by David Bryce. It is now used as one of the principal concert halls of the Edinburgh Festival. The building, in an early 18th-century revival style, has a large central doorway above which stands a figure of St Andrew by the sculptor, Henry Snell Gamley. David Bryce (1803-76), architect, officiated for several years as grand architect to the Grand Lodge of Masons in Scotland. He designed the original Freemasons' Hall which opened in 1859 as the Grand Lodge of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
