Description Ratho Station Station House from NE

Date 4/10/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 451589

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Ratho Station, Midlothian This station was built for the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway, Scotland's first inter-city railway. It was some distance from the village it served, so closed in the 1930s. The station buildings were on the east-bound platform. This view shows the signal box from the rear. This is of a North British Railway pattern, probably late 19th century. This signal box was demolished when the line was resignalled a few years after this photograph was taken.
