Scope and Content Crane, Inverness Harbour, Inverness-shire This is a river-mouth harbour, consisting of quays along the east bank of the river Ness. There is a loose stone training wall to keep the main current of the river away from the quays. This view shows a hand crane on a stretch of disused quay north of the active harbour. The crane is mounted on a post sunk into the quay, and has a cast iron frame and wooden jib. This is an unusually large and fine example of a common 19th century type. There is a similar crane at the top of the Muirtown Locks on the Caledonian Canal. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
