Scope and Content Fishing station, Crosskirk, Caithness This was a small beach station for salmon fishing, with a minimum of fixed facilities. This view shows the haven made by clearing boulders to either side of a beach, with the cast iron winch used to pull boats on to the shore. The bows of two boats can be seen to the left of the winch. Small beach fishing stations like this were once common, but were disappearing by the time this photograph was take in 1974. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
