Scope and Content Infirmary Bridge, Inverness This is one of two wire-rope suspension bridges built in Inverness in 1881. This one was designed by CR Manners and built by W Smith & Sons, Ness Iron Works, Inverness. Its centre span is 52.7m, and the side spans are about 15m This view shows the bridge from the north east. The piers are cased in cast iron, and support lattice steel pylons. The wire rope cable supports the deck on steel rod suspenders. The light trusses forming the deck sides are of single- Warren type This bridge was thoroughly and sensitively overhauled in the mid 1990s.
