Scope and Content Smedley's fruit-canning factory, Blairgowrie, Perthshire This factory was built to can raspberries and strawberries grown locally. Blairgowrie is still the heart of the main berry-growing area in Scotland. This view shows the offices in the centre, with the single-storey workshops and the boiler-house chimney to the rear. This factory has closed since this photograph was taken, as canning of soft fruit has been supplanted by freezing. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
