Scope and Content Working-class housing, Farme Cross, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire One of a pair of single- storey terraces built by the Glasgow Working Men's Investment Trust & Building Society for artisans. This view shows the front of one of these terraces. Alternate houses were entered from the front and from the rear. These blocks, known as Carlyle and Ruskin terraces, were much superior to the type of houses built by employers for their workmen at that time, reflecting the relative prosperity of skilled workmen in the 1880s.
