Scope and Content Farmhouse of St Mary's Steading, Fife St Mary's Steading was established in the early 19th century and consists of a Z-plan range with an L-shaped extension. Valued at £2,500 in 1910, it fell out of agricultural use in modern times and was converted for domestic, workshop and storage use. The farmhouse is built on sloping ground so that the main entrance leads from the garden to the first floor. The doorway is of Roman Doric Order. Roman Doric is one of the mathematically defined architectural styles or Orders used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Rediscovered by architects during the Renaissance, these remained fashionable until the 20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
