Catalogue Number SC 367266

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of B 7517 CN

Scope and Content View of Puffer VIC 32 passing through lock at Dunardry on the Crinan Canal The Crinan Canal was built in 1794-1801 to join Loch Gilp and Loch Crinan and is still operational. Though only 14.48km long, its construction was difficult because the ground was either too soft or too rocky. This shows a puffer passing through one of the five locks at Dunardry. At this point there is a hand-operated roller cantilever bridge which was installed in 1900. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
