Scope and Content Drawing of parallel motion of beam-engine in Garlogie Mill, Garlogie, Grampian This mid 19th-century beam-engine is virtually intact and is the only Scottish example of its type still in its original position. It is a house-built rotative beam-engine of medium size, with a double-acting cylinder, separate condenser and air-pump. The parallel motion is a complex system of parallel links designed to keep the piston-rod moving up and down in a straight line, so maintaining the seal between the cylinder and the piston. The air-pump rod drives the air-pump. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
