Scope and Content Malt-barn at Ardbeg, Islay, Argyll The malt barn at Ardbeg is typical of its kind. It was built to process large batches of barley, turning them into malt. Once it has been soaked in the steeps, the barley is spread out on the malting-floor to germinate and become malt. This is then dried in the kilns before being used to make whisky.
