Scope and Content Stone circle at Temple Wood, Argyll and Bute There are two stone circles at Temple Wood. The sequence of this, the larger and better known circle, has been made clear through excavation. The circle formed a focus for burials over a long period of time during which is was being rebuilt. This is a view at the centre of the cairn within the stone circle. It is comparable with cists in several nearby cairns. The original kerb stones were destroyed so the present ones are reconstructions. The site was excavated in 1929 when the cist was found in the centre. This had already been disturbed and any grave-goods removed, making it hard to place into the overall chronology. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
