Scope and Content Dunnage warehousing at Ardbeg, Islay, Argyll Ardbeg distillery was founded in the late 18th-century by Alexander Stewart, but is first recorded in operation in 1817-18. The raw whisky must be stored for several years before it has matured enough to be drinkable. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
