Scope and Content Brechin Town-house, Angus Brechin Town-house was built to replace a 17th-century tolbooth which was 'in great disrepair'. A public subscription together with donations from the local MP and also the guildry provided the construction funds. The first-floor Venetian window under the clock is original. It lights the council-chamber which was also called 'The Guild Hall of Brechin' in return for the guildry's donations towards the construction. There is a 1789 date-stone over the front door.
