Scope and Content Aberdeen Tolbooth (around 1920), City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. Though originally a prominent landmark, by the end of the 19th century the tower or 'wardhouse' was dwarfed by the new tower to the west of it, and had become simply one component of an impressive complex of civic buildings.
