Scope and Content Dining Room, Craighuchty Terrace, Aberfoyle, Stirling Craighuchty Terrace, a row of six houses designed in an English Arts & Crafts style, was built c.1890 by the architect, James Miller. Shortly after the terrace was completed, Harry Bedford Lemere was commissioned to photograph the interior. This rather plain room is furnished with equally plain Victorian furniture. The painted fireplace, with an inset of simple glazed tiles, has glazed cupboards and small shelves for bric-a-brac incorporated into the chimneypiece. The antimacassars on the backs of the chairs were coverings put over furniture either as an ornament, or to protect the material from Macassar oil, a dressing used in gentlemen's hair. The ingredients came from Macassar in the East Indies, now Indonesia. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
