Scope and Content Detail of lamp standard at No 67 Queen Street, Edinburgh Nos 66 and 67 Queen Street, built in 1791 and 1792 respectively, are an elegant pair of townhouses with exceptional details and fine interiors. They now form one ownership, with direct internal communication. This elegant lamp standard, one of a pair at the entrance to No 67 from the street, was designed to hold an oil lamp. It bears the palmette motif, a Classical ornament like a symmetrical palm shoot, popular in the late 18th century. Robert Adam, (1728-92), used the anthemion, a Classical ornament like a honeysuckle flower, as well as palmette motifs to lend grandeur to the railings flanking the principal entrance to a house.
