Scope and Content Date-stone on Lochmaben Town Hall, Dumfries and Galloway Lochmaben Town Hall replaced an earlier building which was in poor repair by 1723. The building costs were met by local subscriptions. In 1741 the Marquis of Annandale paid for the construction of a steeple. This 1723 date-stone is incorporated in the steeple's second floor room. Since the steeple was built in 1743, the date-stone probably came from the 1723 main block. It was probably part of the cupola that the steeple replaced. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
