Scope and Content A turbine is a form of an enclosed horizontal water wheel whose blades are impelled by high pressure water. The turbine used at Carsfad is a Francis turbine and it sits below each set at basement level, receives water from penstocks which turns a shaft, which in turn generates electricity. The generator is made up of a stationary (non-moving) part known as the stator with wire coils, and a rotor which revolves around it creating the electromagnetic field. This fluctuating magnetic field passes through the coils of the stator and induces an electric current.
