Scope and Content Lindsay's Mill, Dean Village, Edinburgh Dean Village, one of Edinburgh's most ancient and picturesque villages, lies in the deep river valley of the Water of Leith beneath the tall arches of the Dean Bridge. It was originally the largest of Edinburgh's old milling settlements. This view looks towards Dean Bridge, which carries the flow of traffic across the valley, and the distinctive tower of the former Holy Trinity Church at its north end. Lindsay's Mill, demolished in 1931, was one of 11 mills on this stretch of river. The weir immediately downstream provided the water-power for Lindsay's Mill, as well as for the other mills between this point on the Water of Leith and Canonmills further downstream.
