Description Oblique aerial view of Inverness Harbour, South Kessock and the Beauly Firth with Ben Wyvis beyond, Inverness, looking NW.

Date 7/8/2014

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343465

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Part of the site of the Longman Airfield is included at bottom right of image, which also includes the site of Cromwell's Fort and military hospital (the open brown area to the left of the 4 tall trees), with the nearby Clock Tower and Citadel of Inverness. Details are not readily discernible in this image. The Old Harbour was located between where the two bridges (the Ness Viaduct and the Waterloo Bridge, successor to the Black Bridge), now stand. On the far bank of the River Ness, Thornbush Shipyard and its slipway are on the curve of the river halfway between the Ness Viaduct and the firth. West of the river mouth is the Kessock Ferry Pier at S. Kessock. To left of centre can be seen the junction of the Caledonian Canal and the Beauly Firth at Clachnaharry. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
