Scope and Content A general view of the town centre with, just above the railway line far right, Castle House on the site of the medieval castle. Almost opposite far left is the Free Church with spire which marks the eastern end of the conservation area. Diagonally across the road to the right the National Hotel and above it the Church of Scotland with a tower. A little to its right the gable end of the Episcopal Church is visible. Above the Church of Scotland and above the centre of the picture the tower and grey cupola of the Tollbooth/Town Hall can be seen. In the very centre of the picture the obelisk of the Cromarty Monument sits on top of a mound, the probable original site from which the town gets its name, and to its right and a little higher is St Clement's Parish Church. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
