Scope and Content This is a view of Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Raigmore Hospital began as a facility under the Emergency Medical Scheme and took its first patients in 1941. Wards were built of brick in separate blocks. In 1962 plans for a new general hospital to serve Inverness were put in place and Phase 1 incorporating the Outpatients Department, laboratories, pharmacy and records, was completed in 1971. Phase 2 was opened in 1985, providing wards to replace the old blocks. A maternity unit was built on the site of the original wards in 1988. Maggie's Centre, on the left of the photograph, was opened in 2005. To the right of the hospital is the Raigmore estate and on the left of the picture is Inverness Golf Club. At the bottom of the photo is a section of Beechwood Business Park. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
