DP 341489

Description Oblique aerial view of Castle Heather, Inverness, looking SE.

Date 23/7/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 341489

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a view of the area southeast of Inverness known locally as Castle Heather. The site of a mediaeval castle is to the right of the farm buildings in the lower centre of the photo. The form of the name is in dispute. Although know locally as Castle Heather, it appears in the record as Castle Leathers and Castle Bathers, the latter being an anglicisation of the Gaelic Caisteal nan Boirach or Castle of the recluse. The farm was scheduled for development as an 18 hole golf course in the 1990s. The new development of Stackbuie is middle R of the photo. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
