Scope and Content In the centre is Inverness Railway station, opened in 1855 by the Inverness and Nairn Railway, and since rebuilt. It is beside the Lochgorm Railway Works, circa 1860, with later alterations and additions, noted for its long carriage shed. The buildings were erected by the Inverness and Nairn Railways for the construction and maintenance of locomotives and other stock. Below the station is Eastgate Shopping centre, first opened in 1983. The large cleared area in the centre and right, now (2020) the site of Morrison's Supermarket, was Falcon Square cattle market. There was an engine shed on this site, used until the summer of 1961 then demolished. The Crown area is in the right foreground where there any many references to 19-20c houses. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
