Scope and Content Ballone castle in the centre, an impressive Z plan tower, was built in the 16th century, possibly by the Earls of Ross, it belonged to the Dunbars of Tarbat when first recorded early 17c. In 1623 it was purchased by the Mackenzies, but it was unoccupied by the end of the century. It was bought in 1990 by Lachlan and Annie Stewart (of the Anta company) who restored it as their family home. (The photo is before the restoration). Behind the castle is a boundary bank.
