Scope and Content The photo shows the University of Bradford excavation of a unique Pictish monastic site, led by Prof Martin Carver, over successive years, 1994-2007. At bottom L is Tarbat Old Parish Church, the centre of the previous monastery precinct. There were many early Medieval (Pictish) carved stones found in the surrounding Churchyard. Excavations of the monastic site revealed remains of large industrial working areas, for gold, iron, leather, glass and, importantly, vellum for making books. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
