Scope and Content Helmsdale is a C19 planned village, created as a centre for the herring fishery. The harbour was begun in 1818 and extended throughout the C19. The Old Bridge over the River Helmsdale is towards the top of picture. It was built by Telford in 1809-11. It was replaced by the new bridge in 1972 when the A9 was realigned. The large building towards top right is the Primary School. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
