Description Aerial view of Redcastle, Back Isle, looking NE.

Date 2004

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1868234

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content More accurately called Milton of Redcastle, this community sits on the south shore of the Black Isle. The C17 mansion built by the MacKenzies can be seen among the trees at lower centre and occupies the site of a much older structure - the C12 fortress of Edradour. The present building is now derelict but was occupied till the 1940s. There are several sites of interest but they can't be easily identified in this distant view which looks over to the Cromarty Firth and Easter Ross. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
