Scope and Content This view of Loch Ness is taken from the west side of Inverness. The Northern Counties District Lunatic Asylum, known locally as Craig Dunain Hospital, is at bottom right and to its left is modern Inverness Crematorium and Kilvean Cemetery. The crematorium was opened in 1995. Craig Dunain was built in 1860-64 and closed in 2000. It is now (2020) being converted to residential accommodation. In the distance is Loch Dochfour and Loch Ness and to the left are Lochs Ashie and Duntelchaig. The River Ness and the Caledonian Canal run parallel from Loch Ness at left of picture.
