Scope and Content Brora Harbour is in the centre on the river Brora, built in 1814 for the Sutherland Estate for coal exports from the former colliery in the foreground. Mining commenced from 1598 - 1975. Nearby were the salt pans. There are numerous references to associated buildings and the brick works. The railway seen to the left crosses the river Bora on a bridge built for the Duke of Sutherland's railway in 1870-71. Beside is the old Brora bridge 1801.
