Scope and Content Glenallachie Distillery, Moray, from north-west Glenallachie Distillery was built in 1967 for Charles Mackinlay & Co. The architect, William Delmé Evans, also designed Tullibardine Distillery in 1949, and Jura Distillery in 1960. In 1985 Glenallachie was taken over by Invergordon, closed in 1987, and was re-opened by new owners Campbell Distillers in 1989. This shows the rear of the distillery with its pagoda-topped tower (centre), still house with clerestory roof (left) and covered truck-loading bays (right). The pond to the left is created by a dam in the river, and provides water for the condensers, and a home for the distillery ducks, who are attracted by the warm water pumped back from the cooling processes. Glenallachie is situated in Aberlour in Speyside, an area noted for its whisky production. The distillery uses water from the snow-fed burns of Ben Rinnes, a nearby mountain, to produce malt whisky which is sold either as a single malt, or is used in the White Heather blends.
