Scope and Content Govan shipyards, Glasgow Luftwaffe aerial photograph of Govan shipyards, Glasgow, taken during World War II. Great industrial effort was made along the banks of the River Clyde during World War II. In this image, large ships are being built in every shipyard and the Rolls Royce aero-engine factory at Hillington is under construction. The German Luftwaffe took aerial photographs of parts of Scotland throughout World War II. The photographs were used for intelligence work, such as selecting targets, assessing bombing accuracy and finding equipment and defensive positions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
