Sample CH06#57 Context 1055 Midden layer 1055 in Area C ( at base of stratigraphic sequence beneath the midden and double roundhouse northwest of the main excavation) containing Cordoned Urn pottery. Deposit of brown sand (with ceramics and animal bone) forming a midden layer above dark brown sand (1056) and sealed by a layer of mottled brown sand (1054). Site Phase 2. The carbonised barley grain is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities elsewhere on the settlement (perhaps from within a house beyond the excavated area) in which material became charred from contact with the hearth fire. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the seed's charring and its incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
