SUERC-10818

Sample CH06#07 Context 2835 Floor layer 2835 in House 2835 (floor of boat-shaped house below House 801 at south end of excavation). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above windblown sand layer 3194 and sealed by windblown sand layer 2981. (This deposit has an OSL date of 1670-1210 BC). Site Phase 4. The carbonised barley grain is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities within the house in which material became charred from contact with the hearth fire. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the seed's charring and its incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
