Scottish Radiocarbon Database

SUERC-10791

Sample CH06#36 Context 2210 Fill layer 2210 within House 1370 (above first floor of northern roundhouse). Deposit of brown sand covering floor layer 2211 and sealed by floor layer 1369. Layer 2211 is already radiocarbon dated by barley seeds to 1260-970 cal BC (GU-10047; 2915 ± 40 BP) and1390-1110 cal BC (GU-10648; 3000 ± 35 BP) . Site Phase 9. The unfused cattle phalanx is likely to have been deposited into this layer as it was laid over the first floor of the roundhouse. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the death of the cow and the incorporation of its unfused epiphysis into the archaeological context of the deposit.
